In today's world of linked devices and services, businesses in different areas and markets are dealing with many industry challenges.

To develop and operate secure, competitive, and cost-efficient products, they must navigate obstacles such as:

  • Adapting solutions for resource-limited devices
  • Establishing reliable end-to-end over-the-air software and firmware update capabilities
  • Reducing the device’s time to market and engineering costs through the “software define” approach to features and services
  • Providing an infrastructure to manage features and services provided by the device remotely and at scale
  • Ensuring overall system protection and feature and services isolation from each other

Enter AosEdge, a multi-access edge computing orchestration platform designed to address these challenges and expedite the digital transformation of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Service Provider (SP) organizations.

AosEdge is often referred to as the "Kubernetes" for units because it empowers developers to install and run containerized services directly on a connected unit. The platform takes into account the limitations of the unit's computer, such as computing power, memory, and network throughput, and ensures safe and secure operations.

At the heart of AosEdge are two integral components: AosCloud and AosCore. AosCloud facilitates integration with third-party systems and monitors data for custom units. It can be deployed at on-premises data centers or private Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). AosCore is responsible for implementing the ECU/TCU FOTA update process, creating unit data abstraction models for services, and provisioning system and service state monitoring data.

AosCloud interactions can be made through API, SDK tools, and a simple basic GUI. AosEdge also defines four user roles - OEM User, Fleet Owner User Service Provider User, and Admin User- each with different capabilities, thereby providing a highly flexible and customizable platform to cater to various organizational needs.

This deployment guide serves as a comprehensive resource to understand the setup, configuration, and best practices for the effective use of AosEdge. As we navigate through this guide, we will delve deeper into each aspect of the platform and shed light on its components, user roles, and their responsibilities, and how to interact with the platform.
